Portable Appliance Test
All companies regardless of size are required by law to regularly inspect/test all electrical equipment used by the business whether production equipment or not. Items covered in this requirement kettle, radio, computer, vacuum cleaner, electrical heater, in fact any electrical item at the place of work or used by staff while carrying out their work either on or off the premises.
Electrical testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (see the link: www.pat-testing.info/legal.htm) requires that all electrical systems and equipment used in the working environment should be in a safe condition. The Health & Safety Executive recommend that to comply with the regulations, an inspection and electrical testing regime (PAT is recommended) be implemented at all places of work.
Portable appliances are defined as “any item of electrical equipment which has a plug top.” Electrical appliances that are hard-wired via a fused socket should also be tested.
Our method
All items are tested in isolation. Any equipment interconnected by means of mains cables must have these interconnections removed. If necessary, operations must be requested to "shutdown" systems prior to testing.
The portable appliance tester requires a 13A socket outlet Hard wired equipment will be disconnected from the associated outlet, having first isolated the mains supply at a suitable point. Testing will take place via the "SAFE BLOC" wire to plug top adaptor. |
